We’re all familiar with the old saying about an apple a day keeping the doctor away. Now we can add mangosteens to the list as well. The SouthEast Asian fruit has gotten the scientific community buzzing over the years for its supposed health benefits against cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s just to name a few. But very little data exists that can verify these claims, until now.
In a research conducted in 2015, scientists studied the effects that mangosteen-based drinks had on control groups. After 30 days of continuous consumption they discovered that the participants showed 15% more antioxidants in their bloodstreams. Furthermore no hepatic or kidney functions side effects were recorded, making the consumption of mangosteen-based drinks as a supplement possible.
