The red alga Chondrus crispus Stackhouse, more commonly known as Irish moss can be found along the coasts of the north Atlantic Ocean. A versatile organism, it can be used for a variety of purposes including the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry.
But despite being a vital source of food ingredients for thousands of years, very few research has been conducted on the polymorphous algae. This study carried out by Thierry Chopin attempts to provide a broad and extensive look at the biology of C. Crispus to encourage further research and development.
